Held Harmless - PINK

This is the early stage of a series called Held Harmless.   It is based upon some collages I made from paper.  I have them printed and am now stitching on them.  Watch this spot for more to come.

This piece, not quite finished, was begun in a workshop I took in March of this year from Gerhardt Knodel.     An adventure for sure!!

Border Wall Down

36" x 36" x 10"   Entirely hand stitched.  On antique linen I dyed.  This piece is off to the Sebastopol Center for the Arts through early February.

These are 2 quilts I made in 2-19 and somehow neglected to post.

Murano is based on a photo I took in ...you guessed it: Murano, Italy, last year.  Tons of appliqued peeling paint and other hand stitching.   The second is a pieced quilt I painted over then appliqued a form on top of.

Escape By Moonlight

These are 3 of the 12 pieces in this subset of Incarceration my great big solo show at the Long Beach, CA, Jewish Community Center all of January.  They're 6" x 6"

Circles!!

I made these pieces to submit to the Art Cloth Network exhibit that begins at the Minneapolis Textile Center in April and tours for 3 years.  The first 2 were accepted.

Space Junk

I started this piece when we got back from Denmark a few years back and finally found time to put it together.    Just fun, no real commentary on how earthlings are managing to pollute the cosmos now that we have pretty despoiled Earth!  Ahem, ahem...

CRACK! Santa Fe

I was mesmerized by a pebble filled rend in the pavement while walking along the street in Santa Fe, NM,  last spring.  Took photos galore and came up with one I could build on.   Here it is HIGHLY embellished and hand stitched.

Lots and lots of hand stitching on this fabric I had professionally printed.  The first photo was taken by Gloria Plascencia.

Avocado Toast

Another 3D shibori piece made by dye sublimation, tying in of more than 100 heavy duty poker ships, heating, untying, then stitching bits of hand dyed cottons into the "wells."
Fun!!

Sister Artist Project: Mali Heron

This lovely bird and the flowers and leaves he's surrounded by was embroidered by a woman in Mali who is being taught embroidery and other skills so that she may gain independence.  I was VERY fortunate to have the honor of creating this small  art quilt from her work.  I made the 3D needle lace leaves around the edge and sewed the border, back and sleeve on to complete the work.  It will be auctioned off in a fund raiser through the Advocicy Project in Washington, DC. 

Into Africa

Sending 4 quilts off to an international exhibit this summer outside Johannesburg, South Africa.   They will tour to Europe as well over the next 2 years.  That will make 6 continents on which my work will have been shown!  Those dang penguins just haven't gotten their textile museum up and running in Antarctica!!  They promise to get that going soon after they learn to fly.  They are FIRE: Santa Rosa, Brickfielder, NightRide and Rent.

Angry Jellies

What's bugging these jellyfish???   Could it be that their mates are being trapped in plastic and other detritus that careless humans have let accumulate in the ocean?   Or is it just that they can't figure out why they are so squishy???

This is basically a painting on top of an image I designed and had printed then hand stitched and embellished.

 

After the 6th Extinction

This piece is what would happen if Dr. Seuss repopulated the planet after we annihilate ourselves this go 'round.  Looking for a much better world!  Needlelace and various mixed media.
