 Luckily, Receding Figures, a collaboration I did with Steven Mandell, will be shown at the Last CA 101 at the Redondo Beach old library.  I'll be there from 6-7:30; hope you can come as well!!

 Maw of Fire was created in Photoshop. I had it commercially printed then stitched and beaded the piece all by hand (of course!).

Turns Out: Chicken Little Was Right!

 The sky is indeed falling on this poor little guy!   This quilt (with 4 months of hand stitching) is 41" x 33" and my new phone's photos capacity really shows the details.  Does the world feel like this these days?

    

Strings of Desire

 Lucky to see this great show of contemporary embroidery in LA with 5 of my dear friends at Craft Contemporary.  Had lunch in West Adams which was GREAT!!  Mixed media hand stitching, what more could one ask for??!?!!

New Art Cloth Network Exhibition Info

 

CAGED

 CAGED is my latest 3D piece.  It refers back to the art quilts I did several years ago on the subject of incarceration.   I came upon a rusty old tomato cage and knew right away that it was crying out to become a piece of art.  I covered it on 2 of its 3 sides with Fosshape to act as a substrate for the textiles and stitching.   To that I applied cheese cloth I'd dyed murky browns.  Then I made warts and knobs and other oddments, mostly hand dyed, that I stitched into place through the open third.  I spray painted the interior when all the stitching was complete.   Getting it to balance was a bit of a trick, but it's very steady now.    It stands just over 2' high.   

Caged

Usually I put only images of finished work on my blog, but I'm so happy to be back in my studio for the first time since December (thank you EMERGENCE, my solo show in Long Beach) that I just can't resist showing the first third of the new piece.  It will be about 30" tall.  More cheese cloth is in the rusty dye bath getting ready for tomorrow.  The rusty tomato cage is the armature.

End of Year Catch Up

 I'm going to throw a lot of recent work up as I need to catch up on posting.  I'm prepping for my show, Emergence, at the Alpert JCC in Long Beach, CA,  so haven't kept up with much else - It opens 1/3/23; the opening event is 1/8 from 2-4, but the gallery is open 7 days/week from 6am - 6pm so hop on over any time.  (Take a look at DeborahWeir.net for a LOT more new work! as well.)
